Experience the wonder of the Dolomites to the full

Climbing in the Puster Valley Dolomites

You can see it from a distance from the shape of the rocks – the Dolomites are the mother lode for climbing enthusiasts. Not at all far away from our hotel you can find impressive rock faces that have been transformed into varied via ferratas where one amazing view follows on from another like pearls on a string. You can climb with a rope on a rock face – sport climbing and alpine routes – or a via ferrata here. In winter you can simply climb the frozen waterfall instead of the rocks.

Sport climbing and alpine routes

If you love to feel the rock face directly beneath your fingers and you understand how to skilfully use every crack and crevice in order to reach your goal, then we are the ideal hotel for your climbing holiday. Really close by there are four climbing parks to choose from:

  • Lake Prags – 15 routes from 3 to 7b

  • Brückele – perfect for beginners, with 25 easy rope length routes from 3 to 7c

  • Kirchler – only for passionate climbers with experience, with 35 routes, of which 8 are multi-rope routes up to 7 rope lengths from 6a to 7c

  • Plätzwiese/Dürrenstein – only for experienced climbers due to the crumbly rock in some places. 35 routes, of which 7 are multi-rope routes with up to 4 rope lengths, from 3b to 7a

  • Should the weather decide not play ball for once, you can also head for one of the three indoor climbing walls in Toblach, Sexten and Bruneck.

Via ferrata

Perhaps you would prefer to combine hiking with climbing. Even though there is only a single via ferrata in the Prags Valley, happily it is just outside our front door!

Hochalpenkopf Via Ferrata: Begin at the hotel, then initially hike to the Kühwiesenkopf, where you will find the start of this easy via ferrata, which leads to the summit of the Hochalpenkopf mountain (2,540 m).

Other rewarding via ferratas in the Dolomites include the Sentiero Bonacossa for beginners, the Via Ferrata Giovanni Lipella on the Tofana di Rozes for experts, to the Rotwand summit , the open-air museum of the First World War for hikers with an interest in history and “Dolomites Unlimited” for via ferrata tours from hut to hut.

If you do not have any experience or equipment or if you would like to arrange an accompanied individual tour, for example on the Three Peaks, then contact the region’s mountain guides. With their experience, the experts from Globo Alpin, the Puster Valley Alpine School and the Sexten Alpine School will safely accompany everyone to their destination of choice and back again.

On frozen ice in winter

Ice climbing in the Prags Valley

Yes, it actually is possible to climb in winter – however it is somewhat different! Alongside wonderful views of the winter landscape, ice climbing on the unique ice falls above Brückele heading towards Plätzwiese opens up a new dimension in climbing. The level of difficulty is between WI3 and WI4. And because the condition of the ice can even change over the course of the day, you should have an experienced mountain guide accompany you.
