The plateau with a panoramic view

Plätzwiese

Plätzwiese is just a few kilometres from our hotel, at 2000 metres above sea level. This high mountain plateau is paradise for nature lovers, hikers, climbers, botanists, photographers and anyone simply looking for peace and quiet. Rare alpine plants that cannot be found anywhere else grow here. Broad meadows surrounded by the imposing Dolomite summits such as Monte Cristallo, and the triumvirate of Tofane, Dürrenstein and Hohe Gaisl make the elevated alpine plain a real highlight at the heart of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park.

Close by and yet…

With skis and snowshoes

Plätzwiese in winter

Here, where the snow lasts for a long time – usually from the beginning of December to the end of April – winter is a true paradise for winter sports fans. Be it an easy winter hike over the snowy meadows, a snowshoe walk to the Strudelkopf mountain to take in the magnificent views or perhaps back-country skiing to the Dürrenstein, there is something for everyone. And if none of this appeals, then you could always try putting on cross-country skis instead. The Plätzwiese high altitude track is without a doubt the loveliest cross-country skiing trail in South Tyrol. International professional sportsmen and women have even been known to prepare for their races here.

But safety first! Plan every trip carefully and take the snow conditions into account. The avalanche report will help you to decide what to do.
