From a Caribbean climate to today’s rocky crags

The Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park

Since 2009, the Prags Dolomites have officially been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. They originated in coral reefs that formed in the primeval sea around 250 million years ago. They developed into the Dolomites as a result of sedimentation, the rise and fall of the earth and plate tectonics. They are named after the French geologist, Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu. A geological marvel that you can experience and enjoy in both summer and winter throughout your stay at our hotel.

Lake Prags

Lake Prags is the pearl of the Dolomite lakes. You can reach it on foot from our hotel in just half an hour. There is plenty of information about it here.

Plätzwiese

Plätzwiese is the most beautiful alpine pasture in the Dolomites, an elevated plateau at 2,000 metres above sea level. There is plenty of information about it here.

Legendary beauties

The many colours of the Dolomites

The Dolomites are shrouded in many myths and legends. They are also known as the “pale mountains”. Dwarves wove them in their light colours to simulate the moonlight. This eased the homesickness of the Moon Princess so that she would remain with her Prince on Earth. At sunrise and especially as the sun goes down, however, the Dolomites have a pinkish glow. This colour is supposed to come from a rose garden that once belonged to the Dwarf King, Laurin. However, he cursed it, and as a result the blossoming roses could be seen neither by day nor by night. But at dawn and dusk we can see how splendid they must once have been.

The Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park rules

The awarding of the title UNESCO World Heritage site brings with it a duty to protect this special territory – be it for us as its inhabitants or you as visitors. On the one hand, we achieve this through strict rules in the core area such as building prohibitions or traffic bans and restrictions. On the other hand, in the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, other rules must also be followed. These include a prohibition on picking and collecting plants and fungi, the requirement to remain on the hiking trails so that the wildlife is not disturbed, a ban on camping in tents and motorhomes as well as an embargo on the use of drones.

As a visitor, your most important job is to bring all litter back to the hotel with you again, so that we are able to dispose of it properly – above all wet wipes and other hygiene items as well as plastics, but also biodegradable waste such as orange peel and banana skins and paper waste such as tissues.

We also contribute to this by supplying the hotel with sustainable energy, sourcing our food as far as possible from the immediate vicinity and separating and properly disposing of all the waste we produce.
