The loveliest places nearby

You only need to get 100 metres away from the front door of our hotel to find yourself in the core area of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage site. And you really have to visit these two places:

Lake Prags

Lake Prags is the pearl of the Dolomite lakes. You can reach it on foot from our hotel in just half an hour. There is plenty of information about this here.

Plätzwiese

Plätzwiese is the most beautiful alpine pasture in the Dolomites, an elevated plateau at 2,000 metres above sea level. There is plenty of information about this here.

The symbol of the Dolomites

The Three Peaks

They are paradise for climbers, photographers, hikers, mountain lovers and adventurers, but are not easy to reach. No matter which side you start from, you will have to hike for around three hours just to reach the “foot”. Exception: an easy circular trail around the Three Peaks of approximately 4 hours begins from the Auronzo Hut. You can reach the hut, which is around 40 km away, in approx. 1 hour by car from the Hotel Trenker – depending on the snow situation – from mid-May to mid-October.

A colour that is out of this world

Lake Sorapis

Its milky turquoise colour comes from the many abraded particles of the surrounding rock floating in the water. It can be reached in around 2 hours’ walk along the moderately difficult hiking trail for which a good head for heights and sure-footedness are a must. Starting point: Passo Tre Croci (approx. 39 km = 45 min. drive). Please note: the pass is accessible all year round, however the lake can only be accessed in the summer months, depending on the snow conditions from approx. the beginning of June until around the middle of October.

The small town at the heart of the Dolomites

Cortina d’Ampezzo

The Winter Olympic Games took place here in 1956 and will again exactly 70 years later. Cortina d’Ampezzo is a beautiful small town, surrounded by spectacular Dolomite summits. Perfect for a shopping trip, be it in the La Cooperative shopping centre or in the town centre. Cortina is approximately 45 km from the hotel (= 50 minutes by car). It is well worth visiting from June until the beginning of October and from mid-December to mid-March.

The gate to the south

Lake Toblach

This wonderful mountain lake lies in the Höhlenstein Valley and is fed by the river Rienz, which flows onwards to the north. The circular hike (approx. 4.5 km) along the shore of the lake is especially recommended. This natural wonder is only just 17 km from the hotel and can be reached by car in 20 minutes. It can be visited all year round. In winter, the lake usually freezes.

Surrounded by the largest stone sundial in the world

The Fischlein Valley in Sexten

As a small tributary valley of Sexten, the Fischlein Valley is well worth a visit all year round, especially in its anterior, gently climbing section. Initially, the land is really flat from Moos as far as the Talschluss Hut, but it then climbs steeply upwards until the Drei Zinnen Hut. The valley is the starting point of many beautiful hikes. In winter you can go snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and even take horse-drawn sleigh rides here. The hike from Moos to the Talschluss Hut takes approx. 1.5 hours. Sexten Moos is around 27 km from the Hotel Trenker (30 min. by car).

The much-visited Lake Misurina is very close to the Three Peaks. On a circular hike you can really soak it all up and enjoy the magnificent reflections of the surrounding mountains. Distance: approx. 33 km = 36 minutes away by car.

Rushing water with a feeling of being in the wilderness

The Fanes Gorge

This largely pristine gorge, through which the Fanes rivulet flows, can be hiked through easily as far as Ponte Alto. Approx. 45 minutes’ walk from the Sant’Uberto / Ra Stua car park. From there it is only possible to continue along via ferratas, which require suitable equipment and skill. One example is the Giovanni-Barbara via ferrata, which passes behind the ice-cold waterfall. Approx. 37 km = 40 min. drive from the hotel – only in summer, depending on snow conditions from June to mid-October.

Explore the Dolomites on skis

The Sellaronda

From Corvara (67 km = 1 h 10 min. drive from the hotel) you can access the loveliest downhill skiing circuit. Consisting of 44 km, 21 of which are covered by cable cars, for a whole day you will not ski on the same piste twice but instead circumnavigate the Sella massif with its magnificent views of the surrounding Dolomite summits. An adventure for experienced skiers – from mid-December to mid-March.

The Dolomite Passes

Crossings and passes have always separated but also, above all, connected the people who live near them. And since the valleys were connected at the beginning of the 20th century, these roads with their countless twists and turns have been travelled for sightseeing purposes.

Large Dolomites circuit – from the hotel to Cortina d’Ampezzo, Passo Falzarego, Arabba, Pordoi-Joch, Fassa Valley, Eggen Valley, Bozen, Brixen, Puster Valley and back to the hotel – approx. 260 km = 5 hrs 30 min. drive.

Medium Dolomites circuit – from the hotel to Cortina d’Ampezzo, Passo Falzarego, Passo Gardena, Gardena Valley, Klausen, Brixen, Puster Valley and back to the hotel – approx. 200 km = 4 hrs 20 min. drive.

Short Dolomites circuit (west) – from the hotel to Cortina d’Ampezzo, Passo Falzarego, Badia Valley, Bruneck – and back to the hotel – approx. 135 km = 3 hrs drive.

Short Dolomites circuit (east) – from the hotel to Cortina d’Ampezzo, San Vito di Cadore, St. Stefano di Cadore, Kreuzberg Pass, Sexten and back to the hotel – approx. 155 km = 3 hrs 15 min. drive.

In winter, these roads and passes may in some cases be closed due to snowfall and risk of avalanche, otherwise winter equipment for your car is mandatory.

Like being at home with Heidi

Villnöss and St. Magdalena-Ranui

Idyllically situated in picturesque scenery, the Villnöss Valley is also worth visiting. The best thing to do is combine your visit with a trip over the Würzjoch, approx. 80 km = 1 hr 40 min. car drive – can be visited all year round.
